The Small Business Website Checklist (2026)
2026-03-28 · 7 min read
Everything your business website needs to convert visitors into customers, and what most agencies skip.
A business website exists to convert visitors into calls, bookings, or purchases, not to win design awards. Most underperforming sites miss the same fundamentals.
Use this 2026 checklist before you pay for a redesign or ad spend that sends traffic to a leaky funnel.
Above the fold
State who you help, what you do, and the next step in under five seconds. Hero headline for outcomes ('Same-day dental appointments in Austin'), not slogans ('Excellence in care').
One primary CTA visible without scrolling - call, book, or quote. Phone number clickable on mobile.
Trust and local relevance
Real photos beat stock. Show team, workspace, or completed work. Display reviews, certifications, and service area explicitly.
Embed or link Google Business profile. Local SEO basics: unique title tags, meta descriptions, and schema for LocalBusiness where appropriate.
Performance and measurement
Target fast mobile loads, compress images, lazy-load below-fold media, and avoid heavy script bundles on marketing pages.
Track form submissions and call clicks as conversions. If you cannot measure leads, you cannot improve the site.
